Eco-Friendly, Green Living to Create a Better Environment
Landex Development and Artisan 4100 are committed to the health and sustainability of the Gateway Arts District and the planet. Artisan 4100 has been designed to minimize waste, reduce its carbon footprint, improve the Chesapeake and its waterways, and help residents save money on utilities.
Artisan 4100 is designed to LEED Gold standards by the US Green Building Council. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a rating system for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes, and neighborhoods. LEED aims to help building owners, operators, and residents be more environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.
Eco-Friendly Transportation
Artisan 4100 offers residents a wide variety of eco-friendly transportation options that make it easy for you to get where you’re going.
For bike lovers, we have a bike garage with a repair station on premises and Capital BikeShare located across the street at our community partner, miXt Food Hall.
Electric vehicle (EV) owners have access to our charging stations in our indoor parking garage. Residents can charge their EV for free!
Buses at Artisan 4100 make stops along the Route 1 Knowledge Corridor, taking you from our nation’s Capital to University of Maryland – as well as to several nearby Metro stations. Enjoy our sculptural bus stop designed and fabricated by local artists.
Reduce Water Waste
Artisan 4100 uses water-efficient fixtures and Energy Star certified appliances to provide the high-quality performance you expect from an apartment community—while saving on water usage. Residents will feel great about doing their part to preserve this precious natural resource while living among fabulous art and artists.
Artisan 4100 has planted native, drought-resistant plants throughout the property to create shade and minimize water runoff into the Anacostia and Chesapeake watersheds.
Recycling and Repurposing
Proper recycling and waste management is an important part of keeping our community clean, livable, and environmentally friendly. Artisan 4100 makes it simple for residents to recycle items such as plastic, paper, glass and metal by providing easy-to-access receptacles on each floor.
We also encourage residents to donate any unwanted items to local artists who can reuse them for their art work! The Artisan 4100 Collection contains work by Margaret Boozer from materials found on site during construction. Pyramid Atlantic, an art collective dedicated to print making and located in the Gateway Arts District, uses old cotton clothing to make paper.
Improved Air Quality
As part of our commitment to the environment, Artisan 4100 is a 100% non-smoking/non-vaping environment. This allows residents to breathe more easily in their own space, while keeping harmful pollutants out of the air.
Our combination of low VOC building materials and high-quality air filters help keep the air breathable and safe for everyone.
Energy Efficiency
Artisan 4100 is a solar-powered community. We have a 74 kW array on our roof which produces enough energy to create over a 10,000 lb carbon offset each month.
Artisan 4100 has been constructed with Energy Star appliances and windows that reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint required for heating or cooling spaces.
Artisan 4100 utilizes an Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) system to heat and cool the entire building. ERV is the energy recovery process of exchanging the energy contained in normally exhausted building or space air and using it to precondition the incoming outdoor air. Artisan 4100 cools and removes humidity from the air in the summer and warms cold air in the winter for the entire community. Individual residents can choose to be cooler or warmer by adjusting their individual thermostats, thus, residents only have to pay for the heating or cooling of incremental amounts.
Artisan 4100 apartments include smart thermostats to help better control the temperature in your home while saving you money.
